AKIPRESS.COM - Mongolian beekeepers produce up to 150 tons of honey a year. The country currently imports 90% of its annual honey demand, and has problems in logistics involving bottling, labeling, transportation and marketing, according to News.mn.
Over the last two years, beekeeping and honey production in Mongolia has seen a recovery.
Mongolian beekeeper T. Shijirtuya comments: “Foreign countries are very interested in obtaining Mongolian honey. However, Mongolia has traditionally imported honey. Therefore, the state should increase the import taxes on honey.”
Shijirtuya runs the Arga Gangat honey farm, which produced 10-15 tons of honey last year, exporting up to 300 kilograms to Japan. The honey price per 1 kilogram is 20,000 togrog (around US$9).
