AKIPRESS.COM - At the invitation of Surajkund Mela Authorities, a 21-member team of Dancers and Crafts persons from Kyrgyzstan left for India to participate in the 30th edition of Surajkund International Crafts Mela (Fair). The 15-day long Fair began on 1 February 2016 in the city of Surajkund in the State of Haryana, India.
The participants from Kyrgyzstan include 12-member Dance Group named “Taberik”, 6 dancers and crafts persons from Special School “Balajan” and 3 crafts persons from “Altyn Taj” Association. Kyrgyz artists have been regularly visiting Surajkund Melas.
Surajkund Mela is a celebration of Indian folk traditions and cultural heritage and occupies a place of pride on the international tourist calendar. More than a million visitors throng the Mela during the fortnight which includes thousands of foreign tourists. The Fair is unique as it showcases the richness and diversity of the handicrafts, handlooms and cultural fabric of India. It is also the largest crafts fair in the world. A large number of renowned national and international folk artistes and cultural groups present performances at the open-air theatres, located in the Mela premises.
In 2013, the fair was upgraded to an international level. 20 countries and all the states of India are participating in the fair.
