UK, Uzbekistan mull investment opportunities

AKIPRESS.COM - Uzbekistan and the UK have discussed the prospects for developing bilateral trade and economic relations in oil and gas, chemical, pharmaceutical, energy, mining and food industry, the UK Embassy said.

The discussions were held during the 22nd meeting of Uzbek-British Trade and Industry Council.

The UK delegation was led by the co-chair of Uzbek-British Trade and Industry Council Dame Barbara Hay, while the Uzbek delegation was led by the country’s First Deputy Foreign Minister Zhavlon Vakhabov.

During the meeting, the Uzbek delegation briefed the representatives of around 80 UK companies participating in the meeting about the opportunities for their participation in some investment projects of Uzbekistan.

They were also informed about the efforts of Uzbek government in implementing strategic programs on structural reforms, modernization and diversification of industry, as well as development of infrastructure and privatization.

During the meeting, the UK companies also briefed the Uzbek delegation about the opportunities they can offer for Uzbekistan’s market in various industrial spheres, science and education.
Uzbek-British Trade and Industry Council was created in accordance with the intergovernmental agreement in 1994. It is a forum for both countries for strengthening bilateral trade and economic relations.
