China celebrations of V-day kick off in Beijing with world leaders, representatives attending

AKIPRESS.COM - 134583302_14412461137011n Chinese President Xi Jinping and dignitaries of foreign countries and world organizations arrive at the Tian'anmen Rostrum to attend the commemoration activities to mark the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, in Beijing, capital of China, September 3.

This is the first time the country has held a parade to commemorate the victory. It's the first time China has invited foreign troops to participate in a military parade.

According to Chinese authorities, the parade will be attended by about 12,000 troops, including 1 thousand foreigners, as well as 500 units of various military equipment and more than 200 aircraft.

Among the foreign countries whose troops are taking part in the parade are Russia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Mexico, Mongolia, Cuba, Egypt, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Cambodia, Laos, Fiji, Venezuela, Vanuatu and Serbia.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has delivered a speech during the celebrations. Today, he will also award medals to veterans and generals and family dependents of the deceased.

Leaders of all the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), including Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, are attending the activities in Beijing.

The Shanghai and Shenzhen stock exchanges will be closed for four days from September 3 to 6, according to the securities regulator.
