OSCE trains Tajik law enforcement officers on combating narcotics and investigation techniques

AKIPRESS.COM - Twenty-four officers from Tajik law enforcement agencies today completed an OSCE training course on combating narcotics and investigation techniques in Dushanbe.

During the five-day course, conducted at the OSCE Office in Dushanbe, twenty-four officers from the Main Directorate of Border Troops of State Committee for National Security, Customs Service and Drug Control Agency enhanced their operational capacity and knowledge about contemporary approaches on combating narcotics and investigation techniques aimed at reducing of drug trafficking threats.

The training, led by a Turkish National Police expert and a Tajik Drug Control Agency expert introduced different approaches on combating narcotics as well as Tajikistan’s counter-narcotic efforts, and legislation on countering narcotics.

A practical exercise on the examination of unknown substances with the use of individual drug testers donated by the OSCE Office in Tajikistan was organized in the laboratory of the Drug Control Agency, where the participants had an opportunity to get acquainted with practical experience in controlled environment.

“The Office in Tajikistan is supporting Tajik border and security agencies through sustainable professional capacity development activities, which helps to improve their counter-narcotics competencies, operational capacity and investigation techniques,” said Sean McGreevy, the Senior Executive Officer at the OSCE Office in Tajikistan."

The event, aimed towards successful implementation of the Tajik National Border Management Strategy, was organized as part of a series of training courses aimed at capacity development of the border and security agencies.
