AKIPRESS.COM - Russia's Vladimir Putin congratulated President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov on his convincing victory in the presidential election of March 29 and wished him continued success.
Both leaders reiterated their commitment to further developing the strategic partnership and cooperation between Russia and Uzbekistan. Earlier, Mr Putin sent Mr Karimov a message of congratulations, Kremlin reports.
Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday sent a congratulatory message to Karimov. He voiced his belief that under the leadership of Karimov, Uzbekistan will make new and greater achievements.
Karimov, 77, won 90.39% of the votes in Sunday’s election.This will be his third term under the current constitution.The electoral commission of the country said the turnout was at an 91.08%.
