Caspian Flotilla to take part in joint drills with Kazakh, Azeri navies in 2015

AKIPRESS.COM - Russia’s Caspian Flotilla ship squadrons in 2015 will take part in joint international manoeuvres with the naval forces of Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, spokesman for the Southern Military District Colonel Igor Gorbul told TASS.

The manoeuvres will be held within the framework of planned international military co-operation between the Caspian littoral states.

“The three-sided joint naval exercise of the Caspian littoral states will be held for the first time, it will take place in the middle part of the Caspian Sea in June - July 2015. The Russian Navy will be represented by a squadron of news ships of the Caspian Flotilla comprising the Makhachkala small gunnery ship and two small-size missile ships - the Grad Sviyazhsk and the Uglich,” he said.

During the joint manoeuvres the three countries’ warships will drill the protection of sea lanes and maritime areas of economic activity, including joint navigation and manoeuvring, single and joint military exercises with gun practice on sea, air and shore targets, said the Southern Military District spokesman.

In addition to the combat drills, the ships’ crews will conduct search and rescue support exercises and operations to rescue a distressed vessel on the high seas, Gorbul said.
