Like in previous parliamentary elections where voter turnout was above 80%, observers had also expected a high turnout for the 2014 parliamentary election.

Abdulsalomov also reiterated the presence of foreign observers who were invited to ensure the transparency and openness of the elections and this time some 300 observers from over 50 countries in Asia, Europe, Africa and America had been invited while thousands of local observers also monitored the election.

Malaysia were also invited to send observers and a delegation led by Election Commission (EC) Deputy Chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Hashim Abdullah arrived on Friday.

Other members of the delegation included EC's former deputy chairman Datuk Wira Wan Ahmad Wan Omar, who is currently special officer at the Deputy Prime Minister's Office, EC division secretary (data analyst) Syed Ahmad Bashah Syed Anwar, senior lawyer and Gandhi Memorial Trust Malaysia chairman S. Radhakrishnan and Asian Strategy and Leadership Institute Senior Vice-President Max Say.

At one of the polling stations, the observers were present as early as 5.30am, said chairman of the station Abdurahmanova Saida Turda Lievna.

Polling stations opened at 6am (Malaysian time 9am) and closed at 8pm (11pm) last night.

The election saw some 535 candidates from four parties, namely the Liberal Democratic Party, People's Democratic Party, Democratic Party Milly Tiklanish (National Revival), and the Social Democratic Party Adolat (Justice) contesting for 135 seats in the Legislative Chamber Oily Majlis (Lower House of Uzbek parliament).

Under the election law, a total of 15 seats have been allocated for the Ecological Movement of Uzbekistan, in view of the significant environmental challenges faced by the country.
