AKIPRESS.COM - Afghan and Tajik border officers today completed a two-week OSCE patrol medical course in Dushanbe, said in a OSCE press release.

The advanced course was designed for the border officers who had already attended a basic patrol leadership course in 2014. During the course, six Afghan border police officers and ten Tajik border guards, learned how to react and provide medical care in the event of an emergency. In particular, they were trained to check blood pressure, give injections or infusions, and differentiate between types of burns. The course also included practical exercises using a stretcher in various circumstances, such as while crossing a river.

"The OSCE continues to improve the capacity-building skills of Tajik border guards and Afghan border police under the Patrol Programming and Leadership Project by focusing on high quality training," said Ambassador Markus Mueller, Head of the OSCE Office in Tajikistan.

The Afghan Embassy in Tajikistan and the Main Directorate of Border Troops of the State Committee on National Security of Tajikistan also attended the ceremony.
