OSCE course discusses international law standards in Turkmenistan

AKIPRESS.COM - OSCE_sign International law standards and their implementation were discussed at an OSCE-organized training course for state officials that concluded in Ashgabat on November 14.

The two-day training course was attended by members of the Mejlis (Parliament) officials from the Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of Adalat (Justice) as well as instructors from the Foreign Ministry’s Institute of International Relations.

“In recent years, Turkmenistan has acceded to several major international conventions and adopted a number of national laws requiring the compliance with international standards. Turkmenistan is also rapidly expanding its international ties, and it is particularly important to raise the state officials’ awareness about international law obligations and enhance their understanding of practical aspects related to their implementation’, said Ambassador Ivo Petrov, Head of the OSCE Centre in Ashgabat.

"This training course is organized as part of activities implemented by OSCE Centre in Ashgabat jointly with the Government of Turkmenistan, to promote international law standards and we firmly believe that this successful co-operation with continue and expand", said Petrov.

The training course addressed a number of key international documents, including Vienna Conventions of 1969 and 1986 and focused on best practices of other OSCE participating States in the area of implementing international law standards.
