AKIPRESS.COM - CU presidents The single currency of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia is not on the medium-term agenda, Head of the National Bank of Belarus Nadezhda Yermakova told BelTA.

To ensure successful operation of the integration association of the new level its member states will need to implement a set of measures to create equal conditions for economic operators and to ensure the free movement of goods, services, capital and workforce, Nadezhda Yermakova noted.

Once the common market based on the principle of the "four freedoms" is shaped, the member states can start working on a monetary union and single currency,” Nadezhda Yermakova said.

To do this, the parties must create certain financial, economic and legal foundations. "This requires a gradual convergence of macro-economic indicators of the three states, a common macroeconomic, fiscal, monetary and foreign exchange policy, and harmonization of national legislation in these areas," explained the head of the National Bank.

"These activities are a long-term perspective and are envisaged in the relevant provisions of the Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union. Therefore, the issues of the future monetary union and single currency of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia are not on the med-term agenda. It is the final stage of the integration process. The national currency systems will be operational in the Eurasian Economic Union in the near future,” said Nadezhda Yermakova.
