AKIPRESS.COM - Two years after the last part of the riotously succesful Twilight Saga arrived in cinemas, five brand new Twilight films will premiere on Facebook next year.

Author of the young adult vampire books, Stephenie Meyer, is working with film distributor Lionsgate and Women in Film to make a handful of short films in a series called The Storytellers — New Creative Voices of ‘The Twilight Saga, New York Times reported.

Meyer will work with a group of female panellists including actresses Kate Winslet, Octavia Spencer and Modern Family's Julia Bowen, Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke, producer Cathy Schulman and Frozen director Jennifer Lee. Together they will select and mentor five female directors to lead the panel's favourite short film ideas.

For the millions of 'Twihard' Twilight fans, the films are good news: the films will be based on Twilight characters, although their identities are yet to be revealed.

Lionsgate's decision to showcase new material on Facebook reflects a wider trend of studios to use social media to keep film fans engaged ahead of a big release. The announcement of these 'mini-movies' is stoking speculation that a sixth Twilight film may eventually be made.
