Unregistered foreign broadcasters could be banned in Kazakhstan

AKIPRESS.COM - TV tower The broadcast of foreign TV channels without official registration could be banned shortly in Kazakhstan, reports Tengrinews.

A new law was adopted on television and radio broadcasting on March 1, 2012 obliging foreign TV and radio channels to register with an authorized government agency prior to March 1, 2013. Failure to comply would result in being excluded from network and satellite broadcasting. according to the legislation.

“We are now very concerned that almost half of the Russian channels operating in Kazakhstan remain unaccounted for on part of our authorized state agency. They should have applied there and obtained registration. (…) We now want to bring this issue to the government. We believe that those channels which have not registered with the authorized agency, should be prohibited from broadcasting in Kazakhstan,” Deputy Attorney General Andrey Kravchenko said during a Q&A session in the Senate.
