Lufthansa pilots call off strike

AKIPRESS.COM - Lufthansa A union representing Lufthansa pilots says they have called off plans to walk off the job at Germany's busiest airport.

The move came after Germany's biggest airline said it would proceed with its long-haul flights from Frankfurt despite earlier threats of a strike, according to the Associated Press.

The pilots' union Vereinigung Cockpit said it had received a new offer from the airline for transition payment for those wanting to retire early.

The airline, which faces tough competition from European budget airlines and major Gulf airlines, wants to cut those payments.

The conflict follows several strikes in the past three weeks by pilots at Lufthansa and its Germanwings subsidiary.
