Kurds reportedly kill 25 Islamic State militants in Iraq

AKIPRESS.COM - Kurds IS Bodies of 25 Islamic State (IS) militants killed in an ambush by Kurdish forces were found in northern Iraq, Irish Sun reported referring to a Kurdish political leader.

The ambush was carried out Thursday night on Mount Ain al-Safra, 17 km east of Mosul, according to Mohy al-Deen al-Mozouri, a leader of the Kurdish Democratic Party.

Members of Kurdish Peshmerga militias opened fire on an IS column as it approached the Kurds' encampment on the mountain.

In the morning, the Peshmerga fighters found 25 bodies of IS militants and recovered a large quantity of arms and ammunition.

Mount Ain al-Safra is one of the Nineveh Plain's most strategic locations, with a topography that makes it ideal for defensive purposes.

Mosul, Iraq's second largest city, fell to IS in mid-June. The jihadi army has gone on to capture large swathes of territories across northern Iraq and in neighboring Syria.
