Flash floods snarl traffic in Sweden, Denmark

Bishkek (AKIpress) - Heavy rain has poured across parts of Scandinavia over the past few days.

The city of Malmo in southern Sweden reported 102mm of rain in the 24 hours up until midnight on Monday, 20mm of which fell in under an hour, Al Jazeera reports.

In Copenhagen, 120mm was reported to have fallen in about three hours.

Flooding blocked underpasses in parts of Sweden and Denmark, and divers had to be called in to rescue people in submerged vehicles.

A number of residents also had to be evacuated from their homes as the waters rose.

Over 500 homes were left without electricity in the storm and the police reported over 100 emergency calls.

The rain has now cleared from the region, which should allow the flood waters to gradually drain away.
