New record for Apple stock

AKIPRESS.COM - apple The tech giant's stock closed at the highest price in the company's history - $100.53 a share - on Tuesday.

Apple stock traded over $700 a share in September 2012. The stock was split 7-for-1 earlier this year.

The shares are trading for more than $700 a share. Adjusting for the split, the last time the stock traded for more than $100 a share was just before a peak that turned into a vicious crash. Shares traded for $702.10 on Sept. 19, 2012 (on a non-split adjusted basis). Adjusted for the split, that means shares peaked last time at $100.30, which is about where the stock is now. Shares of Apple are up $1.21, or 1.2%, a share to $100.38 and are up 25% this year.

The problem is, Apple shares collapsed after hitting $100 a share (split adjusted) before. The stock fell 44% from the peak through June 2013. Ouch! Perhaps that explains why Apple today set a record for the most trades in a second (5,094) according to Nanex.
