Frustrating winds of Turkmenistan change PWA rankings

AKIPRESS.COM - delphinecousin3 Delphine Cousin has conquered the inaugural Awaza PWA World Cup Turkmenistan, one of the most frustrating events ever in the history of professional windsurfing, reports Surfer Today.

Despite the light and shifty winds which interrupted the regular thermal winds of the region, Cousin was eventually crowned the Queen of Awaza, as she claimed her maiden event victory on the PWA World Tour, whilst the top twelve men share equal first.

The French sailor won the opening elimination and came second in race two. "We didn't have a lot of wind but we still managed to complete two races. I'm surprised to win this first event, but I'm really happy to make such a good start to the year."

Fellow compatriot Valerie Ghibaudo managed to fight back from sixth place finish in the first race by claiming her first bullet of the season in the second elimination. She finishes runner-up, with Lena Erdil completing the podium.

Antoine Albeau's early exit means a big change at the top of the rankings. While the French windsurfer falls to 25th position, Cyril Moussilmani assumes the tour leader position.
