AKIPRESS.COM - The devaluation of tenge was apparently one of the main reasons of the resignation of the Government of Kazakhstan under the chairmanship of Serik Akhmetov, said expert Marat Shibutov in an interview with Kapital.kz.
The expert said that former Prime Minister Akhmetov had to take a lot of unpopular decisions. The key reason for his resignation was apparently the decision on devaluation. Still one of the main functions of the Prime Minister is taking responsibility over the unpopular measures, said Marat Shibutov.
Former Prime Minister Serik Akhmetov said yesterday about the resignation of the Government. “President of Kazakhstan has signed my resignation today,” said Akhmetov Wednesday during the Government meeting. According to the legislation of Kazakhstan, the resignation of the Prime Minister means resignation of the whole Government.
Serik Akhmetov headed the Government since September 2012.
Later, President Nazarbayev proposed the candidacy of Karim Masimov for the post of a new Prime Minister, the Mazhilis members voted for.
Karim Masimov has served as Prime Minister of Kazakhstan from 2007 to September 2012, then he submitted his resignation and was appointed as head of the Presidential Administration.
