Ukraine disbands elite Berkut anti-riot police

Bishkek (AKIpress) - Berkut Ukraine's acting interior minister has said the elite Berkut police unit, blamed for the deaths of protesters, has been disbanded, reported BBC.

Arsen Avakov said further details would be given in a briefing on Thursday.

Meanwhile, there are continuing international divisions over the ousting of President Viktor Yanukovych.

On Wednesday Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called on other countries to condemn "nationalist and neo-fascist" sentiment in western Ukraine.
